Noa Saunders

Noa Saunders is a PhD Candidate at Boston University where she's completing a dissertation on poetry, film, and everyday life. She holds an MFA in Poetry from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her poems, prose, and reviews have appeared or are forthcoming in Ninth Letter, Ghost City Review, Bitchin' Kitsch, The Shore, LeavingsThe MantleAgainst the Current, and Comics and Modernism (University of Mississippi Press, forthcoming).

I first encountered Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven (1874–1927) at a conference on modernism and comedy. While her performance style is not exactly comical, the Baroness is most notable for her eccentric writing and elaborate costumes, despite the fact that her title brought her no monetary stability.
